PURPLE4LIFE Showcases Sustainable Innovation at CBE JU Cluster Workshop on Bio-Based Food and Feed Solutions
PURPLE4LIFE participated in the 2026 CBE JU Project Cluster Workshop in Brussels, where Project Coordinator Baptiste Leroy presented the project’s progress on sustainable bio-based food and feed ingredients. The event fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange across Europe’s bioeconomy community
PURPLE4LIFE participated in the 2026 Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Project Cluster Workshop, held in Brussels on 9 June 2026, joining leading European initiatives working to advance sustainable and bio-based solutions for the food, feed, and nutraceutical sectors. The event brought together around 60 participants, including researchers, industry representatives, policymakers, and European Commission officials, to discuss opportunities and challenges related to scaling up innovation across bio-based value chains.
As part of a thematic session dedicated to pioneering innovation in bio-based food and feed ingredients, PURPLE4LIFE presented its approach to developing high-value ingredients from sustainable biological resources. The project joined other flagship initiatives funded under CBE JU and Horizon Europe in highlighting innovative technologies and processes that support resource efficiency, circularity, and the transition towards more resilient food systems.
The workshop provided an important platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among projects addressing different aspects of the bioeconomy. Discussions focused on key challenges associated with bringing novel food and feed ingredients to market, including regulatory requirements, industrial scale-up, investment needs, and consumer acceptance. Participants also stressed the importance of supportive regulatory frameworks and stronger cooperation between innovators, industry stakeholders, policymakers, and regulatory authorities.
Baptiste Leroy at the CBE JU Cluster Workshop on Bio-Based Food and Feed Solutions
Representing PURPLE4LIFE, Project Coordinator Baptiste Leroy presented the project’s progress and engaged with fellow innovators exploring future solutions for sustainable food and feed production. Reflecting on the event, he highlighted the value of the workshop in fostering collaboration and showcasing some of the most innovative strategies shaping the future of food and feed ingredients.
The workshop brought together 37 European projects funded through CBE JU, Horizon Europe Cluster 6, the European Innovation Council (EIC), PRIMA, and the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership, creating valuable opportunities to identify synergies and future collaborations. Throughout the day, participants exchanged experiences and explored pathways for accelerating the deployment of bio-based innovations across Europe.
By participating in this cluster workshop, PURPLE4LIFE reinforced its commitment to contributing to more sustainable, resource-efficient and resilient food systems. The discussions and connections established during the event will help strengthen collaboration across the European bioeconomy community and support the continued development of innovative bio-based solutions.
