CNR-ISPA highlights scientific communication role in EU Food Safety Platform campaign for World Food Safety Day 2026

Jun 9, 2026 | News

CNR-ISPA contributed to World Food Safety Day 2026 by contributing to communication materials on food safety and supporting Purple4Life, highlighting food safety aspects of purple bacteria and sustainable microbial solutions in the project

As part of the World Food Safety Day 2026 celebrations (1–7 June), the EU Food Safety Platform implemented a week-long multi-stakeholder dialogue under the theme “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere”, underlining how robust data on foodborne diseases can be transformed into concrete actions that protect public health and strengthen food safety systems.

The design highlights a multi-stakeholder dialogue on food safety and explains how Purple4Life explores sustainable production of safe, high-quality food and feed ingredients from purple bacteria. The graphic emphasizes safety assessment, regulatory compliance, and circular bioprocesses, alongside the World Food Safety Day call to action for governments to ensure safe and nutritious food for all.

After the successful 2025 edition, the 2026 campaign brought together contributions from members and partners across Europe, showcasing experiences, data-driven approaches, and innovative practices that translate the global theme into actionable solutions at EU and national level.

A central contributor to this initiative was the Italian National Research Council – Institute of Sciences of Food Production (CNR-ISPA), which brought the topic “Purple bacteria, food safety and regulations”, presented by Antonella Leone and Laura Cavallarin, and played a key role in the development and dissemination of scientific communication materials throughout the campaign.

CNR-ISPA contributed a series of digital posters, infographics, and communication assets focused on food safety, novel foods, competence development, and sustainable food systems. These materials supported knowledge sharing across stakeholders and strengthened the visibility of science-based approaches to food system challenges.

The campaign was officially endorsed by FAO, confirming its alignment with global food safety priorities and its relevance to international policy and research frameworks.

Within the Purple4Life project, CNR also contributed specifically to highlighting the food safety aspects of purple bacteria applications, supporting the project’s efforts to communicate safe and sustainable microbial-based solutions.
